Here at POLE CONTROL we are dedicated to teaching you the art of pole fitness, from simple spins to tricky inverts! Pole fitness is becoming increasingly popular with women of all ages, shapes and sizes as not only is it a great way to keep fit, build strength and increase muscle tone, but it's great fun too!
Regardless of your age, flexibility or level of dance experience, with the appropriate guidance pole fitness can be learned by just about anyone!
We are located in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, just a stone's throw from Roding Valley tube station (Central Line) with easy links to Central London and surrounding areas.
Our bijou dance studio is fully equipped with professional dance poles, floor to ceiling mirrors, wood floors and toilet/changing facilities.
Our private lessons are individually tailored to suit your needs. You don't need to be particularly strong or flexible to partake in these lessons as these areas will improve with time. At beginner level you will learn simple poses, turns, spins and climbs which will help to build your overall body strength in preparation for further levels.
Likewise, if you are an experienced pole dancer and need extra help perfecting old moves or learning new ones, we are able to tailor the lesson around your needs.
Our private lessons are available either on a one to one basis, or you can bring a friend and learn together (which is always a great giggle!).
Prices quoted are per hour (including warm up and cool down), with 1 person to each pole. Larger private groups will also be considered, please contact us if you require further information.
Call or e-mail us today to discuss availability.
We like to keep our group sizes small to maximise your learning potential, fewer students means that we can give you more attention. Unlike some other schools, we only ever have a maximum of two students per pole (though most of the time we only have 1 person per pole) to ensure that you benefit the most from the time available.
Classes are one hour long including warm up and cool down, please be prompt as if you miss the warm up we may have to turn you away.
Please call or e-mail us today to register your details or reserve a space.
Getting married or organising a friend's hen party? We offer fantastic pole dancing party packages to make your hen party a day to remember! Groups up to 10 people will be held at the POLE CONTROL studio, Buckhurst Hill. For larger group sizes, choose between our Central London venue and our Essex (Basildon) Venue.
We'll put together a two hour pole dancing workshop where you will learn a combination of poses, spins and climbs before each performing your very own pole dancing routine, leaving some time at the end for photos and giggles!
"I've recently been married myself and have first hand experience of just how stressful planning a wedding can be! Your hen night is an important part of the process as it's the one chance you get to unwind and let your hair down with the girls, and what better way to do that than with a pole party?"
FAQ
> What is Pole Fitness?
Pole fitness is a revolutionary form of exercise which takes its characteristics from a mixture of pole dance, Chinese pole (as seen in circus acts) and gymnastics. It combines acrobatics with dance to create a fantastic all over body workout. Some of the many benefits of attending a regular pole fitness class include: increased upper body strength, improved posture, increased confidence levels, improved flexibility, improved core strength & stability, increased muscle tone and weight loss.
> Why Choose POLE CONTROL?
We pride ourselves in being the very best that we can be. Your POLE CONTROL instructor is both experienced and qualified, and holds comprehensive liability insurance and a current first aid certificate. We have gained approval from the industry regulators (such as PDC and REPs) and are committed to providing a safe and fun environment for all students to learn in.
> What Does PDC Approved Mean?
The PDC (Pole Dance Community) sets standards within the industry to create a safe training environment to all pole dance/fitness students. PDC approved schools and instructors must abide by the PDC code of conduct and pass a strict approval system. Click here to learn more. By choosing to train with a PDC approved school you can be sure that you are getting the very best. Another benefit of being PDC approved is to give students the opportunity to take PDC AAP (Advancement & Accreditation Program) gradings, the only world recognised grading proceedure for pole fitness.
> Where are the Classes Held?
Both our private and group lessons are held at our bijou dance studio in Buckhurst Hill, Essex (IG9). We are located just off Station Way, a stone's throw from Roding Valley tube station (Central Line). Hen party bookings are held in one of three venues; the POLE CONTROL Studio (IG9), our Regent Street Central London venue, or our Basildon Essex venue. Full details including directions, address and post code will be sent upon booking.
> Who Can Take Part?
To take part in a pole fitness session you must be in general good health with no physical ailments. Pole fitness may be unsuitable for those who suffer from neck or back problems, if you are unsure please seek advice from your GP. Pole fitness is unsuitable for those who are pregnant or have recently given birth. If you have recently undergone any surgical procedure please seek medical approval before attending a class. If there is anything thay you are unsure of, please contact us and we will be happy to listen and discuss further.
> Is There an Age Limit?
Yes, all students must be aged 16 or over. Persons between the age of 16 and 18 will require written parental consent before participating in a lesson. There is no upper age limit for pole fitness, providing you are generally fit and healthy. Due to venue regulations hen party members (excluding groups of up to 9 people) must be aged 18 or over.
> Is it Dangerous?
As with any type of sport, pole fitness is not risk free, however we do everything that we can to minimise the risk of injury. We will advance you at a slow and steady rate in order for you to build the strength and confidence required for some of the more difficult moves. We have thick crash mats readily available for use when practicing inverted moves, however we will always teach you how to dismount properly in a way that ensures your safety. In addition to all this, your instructor will always be on hand to spot you.
> What Do I Wear?
For the warm up you may wear tracksuit bottoms or leggings if you wish, however when it comes to pole spins, climbs etc we recommend that you wear a pair of shorts and a t-shirt or vest top to allow for maximum friction between your skin and the pole. For footwear we recommend bare feet, ballet shoes or soft soled plimpsoles. High heeled shoes are STRICTLY PROHIBITED .
> What Should I Bring?
Please bring a bottle of water with you to keep yourself hydrated throughout the lesson. Should you forget we have bottles of water and plastic cups at the studio. No glass bottles please! We recommend bringing with you a small hand towel or flannel for your hygeine.
Helen took up pole fitness as a hobby seven years ago and has been addicted ever since!
At 19 Helen moved to Mallorca where she performed in some of the island's most famous nightclubs as a stage pole/podium dancer.
Some years later Helen moved back to the UK to pursue a career in pole fitness instruction, where she worked for a Brighton based company teaching pole fitness to hen parties.
in 2009 Helen moved to Essex to open POLE CONTROL, her very own school of pole fitness, and she hasn't looked back ever since.
Helen is a certified CYQ Level 2 Exercise to Music Instructor, is a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs), and also holds an up to date First Aid certificate as well as having full public liability insurance.
Helen is a PDC (Pole Dance Community) approved instructor and authorised grading assessor.
On 30/06/2011 Helen was interviewed on the "Dave Monk Show" on BBC Radio Essex discussing and promoting pole fitness as a recognised form of exercise.
I first started at POLE CONTROL in August 2009 and I have never looked back!
Not only is it such a great way to keep fit and strong, it's really enjoyable! I love learning new moves and you feel a great sense of accomplishment once you perfect a move for the first time.
My favourite moves are the Cross Knee Release and the Elbow Grip Ayesha because I think they look great and one of my favourite spins is the Hollywood. My least favourite move is the Chair.
We've been learning together for two years and we LOVE it!
If anyone was thinking of taking up pole fitness just for a laugh, to learn, or to lose weight then go for it! It's great fun and rewarding too!
Our favourite moves are Butterfly and Carousel, and our least favourite moves are Marley and Superman.
We are both mums, aged 45 and 39. We've been taking lessons for quite a while now and every week we learn something new and exciting!
We always have a real laugh at our lessons, and we're doing tricks now that we never in a million years thought we would able to achieve.
Karen: "My favourite move is the Yogini and my least favourite move is the Superman". Tracy: "My favourite move is the Marley and my least favourite move is the Spin & Snap".
I've been taking lessons for about a year and a half and I absolutely love it! It's an amazing way to keep fit as it's so much fun you hardly realise you're exercising! I even have my own pole at home to practice between lessons.
Helen is a fab teacher and is always there supporting her students every step of the way and I hope that one day I can be as amazing as she is!
My favourite moves are the Yogini & Elbow Grip Ayesha, my least favourite moves are the Flying Ballerina & the Allegra (closed variation).
I started pole dancing three years ago and have been hooked ever since.
I love pole fitness because I have met so many wonderful people along the way who all share my passion, many of whom I would consider to be friends for life.
My favourite move is the Superman and my least favourite move is the Knee Hold.
If you would like to feature on the website, please ask for more information at your next lesson!
I initially began pole dancing for fitness and self confidence 8 months ago.
After much dedication and hard work I now believe it to be the best thing I have ever done, I have gained much more than I ever believed possible and have even decided to pursue a career in teaching pole fitness.
My favourite move is the Reverse Ayesha and my least favourite move is the Prayer.
